How to keep the house free from ants once they've IDed it?

I had to kill a bunch of ants from my kitchen and felt painfully wrong. They were attracted by a bag of dried fruit I used as a trash bag (to reuse it and probably should have washed it better).

Is there a way to keep them out without having to use chemicals to achieve this? Like a natural thing I could spray to scare them away or has the track already been marked and will be forced to make another ant genocide?

I feel awful. But it was literally an army, I had to.

Please don't judge me more than I am already doing as I'm typing.
