Whenever I go to the countryside, all cockroaches I see have the ability of flight. But all the city ones don’t, even though they have wings. They never fly, even when you try to kill then whereas the countryside ones do for self-defence. Considering all the countryside cockroaches mostly live outside and don’t have an abundance of food from human storages (as those areas are poorer or store less food, at least in third-world countries) whereas all the city ones do, have we domesticated cockroaches to the point they are too fat to fly or have forgotten how to do so as they didn’t have the need to anymore? And if so, have we domesticated other pests such as termites, some species of lizards and others?
If not, why don’t the city ones fly? Even though the concept of the domestication of cockroaches is humorous, I'd like to know the real reason more. Thank you for reading.
