How do ticks or other arthropod ectoparasites actually mate?

Inb4 ticks aren't insects >:( - I know, but you have to admit the spheres of interest overlap a bit. If you only specifically like Insecta then you're missing out.

So for ticks like Amblyomma that are specialised for movement it makes sense that they'd find a mate just by wandering round. But there are Ixodid ticks that spend their entire life on a host- these must mate on a host, right? Do ticks with multiple hosts mate on the host or after dropping off (as they are generally reported to move laterally very little).

I'm sure there are many other ectoparasites that follow similar lifecycles- there doesn't seem to be a lot of information even for common tick species, so how do the other little fuckers manage it? Maybe a conclusion can be drawn based on what is common for similar lifecycles.
