If one wanted to extract an alarm pheromone from a wasp’s mandibular gland, how would he go about it?

I understand I would most likely need to remove the gland or head, then dissolve it in a polar solvent. But I would like to know if there is anything else, or perhaps a study I could go off of that is not just my own guess work. Are there any studies or diagrams that could help me in getting the glands and extracting the pheromones? When I say “wasp” I am referring to North American Red Paper Wasps (Polistes Carolina), but anything of the sort will help.
