Coastal cave spider

At washington's coast at Ruby Beach i followed an arrow made of stacked rocks from the shore's edge leading to a cave behind the huge stack of driftwood. I was able to crawl into the cave about 1.5 meters tall 2 m deep cave. The walls were moist and mulch bedded the floor. As i shined a light upward i could see a crack and a swarm on maybe 5 critters began scurrying back up into a crack in the ceiling which looked potentially dry. They looked like dark large spiders (2.5 cm in length of body with long bent limbs). I did not get a close look as i panicked and scuttled back out the entrance. Could this be a arachnid species i know not of or some other type of tidal zone creature? Anyone familiar with something like this? Sorry no pics 'cause of my cowardice.
