A mealworm escaped from my feeder supply for my reptiles, and survived long enough hidden in my kitchen cabinet to become a darkling beetle. I feel he deserves a good life for here out for being such a survivor. How can I care for him?

He was investigating some aquarium supplies. I have set him up in an empty 2.5 gallon tank with some driftwood and a slice of apple, with some fake plants. I read online he can show down on the apple for now. He is on reptibark and doesn't have a lid because it's just really what I had on hand.

Should I give him any heat? I will be getting him a larger enclosure most likely, and I will see if I have any beetles in my supply of mealworms to put with him. Would a 3.5 be large enough for three of them? I have an empty 10g and an empty 5g lurking around somewhere I can probably use if not, just I had been saving them as I do some reptile rescue type stuff and I like to have emergency enclosures in case I take something on unexpectedly. I usually feed them to my bearded dragon as he is a menace and will eat anything which moves, but honestly I feel that the little guy needs a found family situation. I have pack bonded with him. He must not die or suffer lmao
