Hope this is an okay place to ask. As part of some academic questions, I need some clarification about two undefined butterflies species' visual systems:
One species has a homogeneous visual system. Does this mean each ommatidium has the same photoreceptive pigments as the rest? As opposed to being heterogeneous, meaning different ommatidia have different quantities and/or types of photoreceptive pigments?
I realise this is quite a nebulous question, but any insight would be greatly appreciated.
