Where to find caterpillars

Unfortunately cheese has disappeared I think the air hole in his container was too big

Since cheese is gone my kids really want to watch a caterpillar go through it’s life cycle we’ve watched lots of videos but they want hands on experience so where’s the best place to find butterflies after this cold snap is over in northern Alabama? I know you can but them online but $15 for 5 caterpillars seems to be the lowest I can find and that seems like a lot when I could potentially get them for free
