So I was feeding my newly molted adult Hierodula Membranacea, and I thought, "oh man, looks like a bit of a miss molt down there," which I'm not breeding, so whatever. BUT I am a curious beast, so I googled, and it turns out, like, genital asymmetry is a thing? And between you and I, I couldn't make head or tails of the papers I found on the male reproductive system of mantids. Though I did find a very rad electron microscope image of two in the act. Is anyone able to shed some light, or share some links to HS level diagrams? All this, btw, I'm hoping to learn that the black hair looking thing is the ejaculation er.. "tube" and not a parasite. Please tell me my buddy doesn't have a parasite. [link] [comments] |
