So maybe a weird question to ask here but I thought this was the most appropriate place I could find. So I'm making this humanoid moth character in Dungeons and Dragons for an underdark campaign. Anyways, I know silk moths (specifically talking about the wild silk moth AKA Bombyx mandarina) produce silk when they are a caterpillar or silkworm if you prefer. So when my character still was young and a caterpillar they produced silk but I was wondering if they could produce silk as well when they've matured into a silk moth.
Maybe an odd question but haven't had much luck finding the information, maybe I'm just blind, but regarding dungeons and dragons, it seemed like some fun roleplay flavor for them to produce their own silk and make stuff out of it with their weaver's tools. I know it's fantasy and I can basically make it any way I like but I like to make some of the homebrew stuff I create a bit grounded in reality or know how what I'm basing it off of works in reality so I can explain work arounds or differences, just a little obsession of mine. Anyways, my apologies if this is not the place to ask, I would gladly go elsewhere to ask my question and would appreciate and tips you guys could provide regarding my question or suggestions of where I could state my question!
