I live in New England, and over the past few weeks have seen a few of these. They are very small, with bodies 1-3mm long, and have wings with either brown stripes or mottles on them. Earlier today I was out raking when I saw one on my arm with its body angled downward and its jaws/proboscis going toward my skin, as if it were biting. After seeing a few welts this evening I suspect they may be bloodsuckers. Any ideas? I'm keen on swatting any of these that I see from now on unless I hear otherwise.
